Department of Community Medicine

In contributing to achieve the national goal of "Health for all", the Department of Community Medicine imparts community oriented teaching for MBBS students so as to produce "competent physicians of first contact" and also a skilled and motivated basic doctor. Department has well developed interesting laboratories set up with daily usage materials for teaching and training students for better understanding of community oriented subject knowledge. Department has many community oriented practice of skills and attitude for students. Field practice areas for the MBBS students have been developed in the Pulipakkam village and in Anna nagar, Chengalpattu where the Rural Health Training Centre and Urban Health Training Centre are functioning respectively. The Rural Health Training Centre in Pulipakkam has accommodation and mess facilities for the students, resident doctor and the staff nurse, in order to provide round the clock service for the local population.


To give the society the best health care in any given situation and to be benefited with the maximum medical facility available in alignment with Institution's Vision.


To educate students health-care practice with empathy and ethics towards the society. To train the students to earn 5 star qualities of a doctor to be the best health care professional.

Hall mark status of the department includes the following facilities of the department.
  • Public Health laboratory including all the entomology specimens, slides and Public Health instruments like Horrock's Apparatus, Chloroscope etc.,
  • Well established Public Health Museum with the relevant charts for almost every topic of Public Health interest and Models & specimens for relevant communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Library with all the required books for undergraduate medical students and reference books.
  • Demonstration room with Audio-visual aids for the students posted in the department of community medicine.
  • Statistical consultation and guidance are provided for all types of research activities and project works, by a qualified Assistant professor in Biostatistics.
